Installation

VoxPlan is available as a direct APK download for Android devices. Follow these steps to install:

Requirements

Step 1: Download the APK

Visit the VoxPlan Releases page on GitHub.

Download the latest VoxPlan-X.X-MVP.apk file to your Android device.

Tip: You can also browse all previous versions at github.com/richardmthompson/VoxPlanApp/releases

Step 2: Enable Installation from Unknown Sources

Since VoxPlan is installed directly (not from Google Play Store), you'll need to allow your device to install apps from unknown sources:

  1. Open Settings on your Android device
  2. Navigate to Security or Privacy
  3. Find Install unknown apps (on newer Android versions) or Unknown sources (on older versions)
  4. Enable installation for your browser or file manager app
Note: The exact location of this setting varies by Android version and device manufacturer. On Android 8+, you grant permission per-app. On older versions, it's a system-wide toggle.

Step 3: Install the APK

  1. Open your device's Downloads folder or notification panel
  2. Tap the downloaded VoxPlan-X.X-MVP.apk file
  3. Review the app permissions
  4. Tap Install
  5. Wait for installation to complete
  6. Tap Open to launch VoxPlan

Step 4: Launch VoxPlan

Once installed, you'll find VoxPlan in your app drawer. Tap the icon to launch and start organizing your goals!

Updating VoxPlan

To update to a newer version:

  1. Download the latest APK from the releases page
  2. Install the new APK over your existing installation
  3. Your goals, quotas, and progress data will be preserved
Data Safety: VoxPlan stores all data locally on your device. No internet connection required. Your goals and progress are private and secure.

Troubleshooting

Installation blocked? Make sure you've enabled "Install unknown apps" for your browser/file manager.

App not compatible? Check that your Android version is 8.1 or higher.

Getting Started

VoxPlan works in a simple cycle:

  1. Goals — Create and organize what you want to achieve
  2. Quotas — Set how much time you'll commit each day
  3. Focus — Work in timed sessions, earn medals
  4. Progress — Track your weekly achievements

The app has two main screens accessible from the bottom navigation: Goals and Progress.

Goals Screen

The Goals screen is your home base for organizing everything you want to accomplish.

Creating a Goal

  1. Tap the text input bar at the bottom of the screen
  2. Type your goal title
  3. Tap the add button

Your goal appears in the list, ready to work on.

Organizing with Hierarchy

Goals can be nested up to 3 levels deep:

Learn Guitar (Level 1)
├── Master Chord Progressions (Level 2)
│ ├── Practice G-C-D progression (Level 3)
│ └── Learn F chord fingering (Level 3)
└── Learn to Read Tablature (Level 2)

To view subgoals: Tap the expand arrow on any goal with children.

To navigate into a goal: Tap the list icon to drill down. A breadcrumb trail appears at the top showing your path back.

To return: Tap any breadcrumb to jump back up the hierarchy.

How to reorder:

  1. Tap an arrow button (it highlights)
  2. Tap the goal you want to move

  2. Tap the delete icon (trash)
  3. Confirm deletion
Note: Deleting a goal also removes all its subgoals.

Setting Quotas

Quotas define how much time you commit to spending on a goal each day. They're the bridge between "I want to do this" and "I'm actually doing this."

Adding a Quota

  1. Tap a goal to edit it
  2. Find the Quota section
  3. Set your daily minutes (e.g., 60 minutes)
  4. Select active days (e.g., Monday through Friday)
  5. Save

You earn a medal for every 30 minutes of focused work:

30 min 1 medal
60 min 2 medals
90 min 3 medals
... ...

Earning Crystals

Achieve a crystal when you log 4 or more hours of focus in a single day. Crystals represent exceptional dedication.

Banking Your Time

After a focus session:

  1. Review your earned time and medals
  2. Tap Bank Time to save your progress
  3. Your time is recorded against that goal for today

Banked time appears in the Progress screen and counts toward your quota.

Progress Screen

Weekly View

Each day of the week shows:

Reading the Indicators

Stars represent full hours of quota:

Circles represent half-hours (for quotas like 30, 90, 150 minutes):

Purple indicators show overachievement:

Example

A goal with a 90-minute quota shows: ★ ● (1 star + 1 circle)

If you worked 2 hours: ★ ● ★ (gold star, gold circle, purple star for the extra 30 min)

Navigating Weeks

Use the arrow buttons next to the date range to view previous or upcoming weeks.

Actual Time Display

Each goal row shows the actual time logged in hours and minutes (e.g., "1h 30m"), giving you precise tracking beyond the visual indicators.

Tips & Workflows

Suggested Daily Workflow

  1. Morning: Review your goals and quotas
  2. Work sessions: Enter Focus Mode, work in 30+ minute blocks
  3. Bank time: After each session, bank your progress
  4. Evening: Check Progress screen to see your day's achievements

Best Practices for Goal Hierarchy

Keep it simple. If you need more than 3 levels, your Level 1 goal might be too broad—consider splitting it.
